“To better serve our customers in the communities in which we operate, we realized it was vital to have a strong presence and local experts who understand each of the markets,” said David Goldberg, U.S. CEO for DHL Global Forwarding. “Although we are a global multinational company, we thrive on being able to provide customized options and an exceptional experience for companies of any size in Portland.”

As the largest city in the state of Oregon and with a major port in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, Portland also stood out to DHL for its thriving industries, which include manufacturing; ecommerce; technology; outdoor gear and apparel; food and beverage; forestry and wood products.

“Due to its strategic location, Portland has a strong history as a maritime and regional distribution point, helping to grow technology and manufacturing industries, among many others,” said Melissa Anderson, Portland station manager. “DHL’s investment in Portland shows its commitment to helping companies in the city and the Northwest expand into new markets or grow their existing business through its logistics and supply chain expertise.”

As part of its efforts to reach out to the local community and share relevant information that is important to businesses importing and exporting to and from the U.S., DHL Global Forwarding, held an educational training course on the International Commercial Terms (INCOTERMS® 2010) on September 21 in its Portland office. INCOTERMS are pre-defined commercial terms and rules published by the International Chamber of Commerce for the delivery of goods under sales contracts for domestic and international trade.

DHL Global Forwarding’s Portland station employs 60 employees and is located only four miles from the Portland International Airport and 14 miles from Port of Portland. To date, DHL has solidified its presence in 15 cities across the U.S., with plans to have 36 U.S. stations by the end of 2017.
