Sutton Coldfield warehouse development project gains traction

IM Properties has submitted a planning application for half the 175-acre Peddimore site, near Sutton Coldfield.

The Midlands-based development was selected last year as the development partner for the former green belt site close to junction 9 of the M42 motorway. Peddimore is intended to be the focus for new industrial and warehouse development in Birmingham.

There will be up to 3 million sq ft of new floorspace on the site.

The application includes new warehousing and road improvements including a new roundabout on the A38.

IM Properties beat a shortlist of  rivals to win control of the prized Peddimore site including Peel Logistics Property, Prologis UK and Bericote who are partnering with Tritax Big Box REIT plc.

The second phase of the Peddimore site is reserved for manufacturing, with an eye to the auto sector. However, the declining fortunes of JLR, who this week announced the loss of 4,000 jobs predominantly in the Midlands, may prompt a re-think.
