HHLA's Chairwoman Angela Titzrath has stated that the company's two intermodal affiliates will be merged into one company
In an interview with DVZ at this year’s Transport Logistics Fair in Munich last week, Angela Titzrath remarked that Polzug will be integrated into Metrans to create "one major intermodal operator."
HHLA expects synergy effects from the merger, although the Polish affiliate – the original vocation of Polzug – will continue to be known as Polzug Polska. Both Polzug and Metrans are 100% owned by HHLA.
No date for the merger was given, but it could be announced at HHL'a annual press conference in Hamburg next week (24th May). The merger effective date is thought likely to be 1st January next year.
Frau Titzrath mentioned that Metrans is already actively involved in operating trains between Europe and China. Last year the intermodal companies improved their results by 1.2% to €55.9M and they transported 1.4M TEU, an increase of 6.8% compared with 2015.
